Green your business.  Increase your profit
margins.  Live to tell about it.

Think going green is hard to do and means smaller profit margins?  Think again. There are several benefits to going green, including:

  • Your customers want it. Show them what you are doing and how they can help. They will appreciate it and consider you a valuable member of your community.
  • Increase your bottom line. There are numerous short-term and long-term actions you can take that actually reduce your operating costs and are green.
  • Increase your employee morale.  There have been several studies that show employees are more dedicated to the success of a company if they see the company cares about its community.
  • Taking preventative measures. Yep, like it or not, more regulation is going to happen and you should be ready. The more green you can become now, will give you a head start for any regulation in the future.
  • It's is good for the environment. Yes, this single spaceship that we are all on called earth does not have an escape hatch or life boat. We only have one and if we mess this one up, we have no place for our kids to go.

GreenBusinessProject.com is an online guide that helps you baseline how green your business is and provides easy tips on how to become more green.

More Info: The More Info section is an editable area that any logged in member can update and edit. This area should provide you with extra information that will help all our members if they want to know more about a topic for any reason. If you have information that will help others looking for more info, we encourage you to add it to the question. You are required to follow our Terms for all edits. If you violate the Terms of GreenBusinessProject.com your account maybe suspended at our discretion.

Recommended Solutions: A Recommended Solution (RS) can be a product, service or an action that either we have uncovered or have been recommended by a member. Because being green is an evolving science, we may make some mistakes. Our hope is that because this is a community of smart people, that if there is a better solution that you will let us know. We will do our best to limit the number of options to reduce confusion and increase adoption. Only a GreenBusinessProject.com Curator will be able to make changes to the RS's.

Resources: The Resources section is an editable area includes information about government programs that may off-set the cost of a Recommended Solution via a tax credit or similar incentive. This could be at the Federal, State and Local level. If you know of any that are not in the GreenBusinessProject.com, we encourage you to list them.

Green Score vs. Certification: We have chosen to go with a relative Green Score rather then a specific certification. The reasons are many, first of which is that most businesses are so far from being green, let alone the ultimate goal of sustainable that if we were to certify your business you would feel like you have arrived. Well, in reality, we all have a long way to go. The good news is that we don't have to do it over night. We have time, but we need to have a plan in place to get there and that is what we want to do with GreenBusinessProject.com. Help you create your own plan that you can follow at your own pace.

Community: With GreenBusinessProject.com you will be able to (anonymously at first) find other companies that have answered the questions in specific ways. For example, if a similar business around you has solved a recycling problem that you are struggling with, you can contact them to ask them how they solved that challenge, so that maybe you can implement the same solution. Or if you notice that several companies around you are in need of solving a similar problem, you can contact all of them and ask if they want to join forces to solve this particular challenge. That is what community is all about. "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

Industry and Community specific. GreenBusinessProject.com is built so that each industry and each community can have its own set of questions. Some may overlap with others, such as those asking about printing paper for office printers. And some may have regional or even city specific questions based on local ordinances or laws.

Curator: Because green is a local thing, we depend on involvement from someone in each local community to help us shape the content and questions for an industry and a community. We are looking for passionate people who will be responsible for either a specific industry within a community or an entire community. We can't pay you, but we can offer you branding and notoriety on the site. If you would like to be a Curator please contact us at curator at greenbusinessproject dot com.

For Profit vs. Not for Profit? Yes, we are a For Profit business. Not because we want to extract as much revenue out of our members, suppliers or partners as possible, but because we want to build a self sustaining organization. From time to time, we will get compensated from some of the products or services that we recommend on GreenBusinessProject.com. However, we will do our best (we ask you to help keep us in check) to make sure that any and all products, services or actions that we recommend are the best option given many important attributes of being green and sustainable.

Feedback: Of course we want your feedback. Becoming green is constantly evolveing and solutions can differ dramatically depending on many variables we need your help. Please offer any suggestions and feedback as possible. Click here to provide feedback now if you want.

Answer a few, simple questions and instantly get the information you need to start making changes today.  Do a little now and come back later.  We'll track your progress and we'll be here when you're ready to take the next step.  (We'll even show you how to tell your sustainability story, without sounding like an eco-know-it-all or worse yet, a greeny-two-shoes .)
