Using version #2.

Whether or not you can save water during window washing depends on how often it happens and how much water is used...of course! So, how often are your windows getting washed? If you answered "more often than necessary", consider waiting until the windows really need a good cleaning. Of course, this will depend on the characteristics of your building and your tolerance (or not) for a slightly-dingier view. If you're using a window-washing service, inquire about setting up an "as needed" contract. If that's not possible, consider asking for a longer time between regular services. If your staff is in charge of window washing, think about giving them a break from this tedious chore. Trust us, they won't mind. And no matter who's doing the washing, what materials are they using? Cut down on waste by using a bucket with a sponge/squeegee tool instead of a hose. Add a little bit of vinegar and biodegradable dish soap to the cleaning solution, and you'll use even less water on your way to squeaky clean windows.
